For an ageing dinosaur, NASA sometimes does some cool stuff

My mate Henry downloaded one of the coolest web applications I've ever seen the other day. World Wind is a program produced by NASA that gives you access to maps of the entire planet. What's so cool about it is that the maps are images taken from NASA satellites and you can basically zoom in on any part of the globe, in some places with a resolution of about 1 metre! You can pretty much zoom in so far that you can make out cars driving on the streets of some cities! The maps can also be viewed in 3D so you can see what the landscape looks like. This is the coolest geek toy ever - you can basically check out the scenery anywhere on the planet...

Byron Bay hat tournament

Yesterday I woke up at 4 AM to drive down to Byron Bay for a frisbee hat tournament. The tournament was great, I met a bunch of people and today I'm aching all over so I guess I played fairly hard. After the tournament, and a few beers, we all headed to the beach for a bit of a swim and to watch the sun set over the mountains. So, in honour of my first beach trip for the season I've added a "Beachmetre" to my blog (an idea I ripped off the Quantum Pontiff).

Haloscan commenting and trackback have been added to this blog.

This is a photo of me. If anyone thinks I'm vain, that's cool, you are probably right. The reality is that I'm just having fun playing with "Hello" and working out how to use "blogger"....

The Beginning

Hello world. OK, that was a lame beginning, practically dripping with unoriginality. This is my first blog post. This blog will be basically all about me, what I think, what I'm up to and what I care about. I hope that doesn't sound to selfish, though this blog is essentially about me being selfish and imposing my world views on, well, the world.

Why the name? Well, the quantum is because I'm a bit of a quantum physics nerd, the bio is cause it's about me, the discs is because I'm also an ultimate disc player (and I thought it sounded cool, kinda like it should be on a grant proposal). I'm guessing this blog is going to have a lot of posts about these 3 things.
